In the artistic environment, alcohol addiction is quite common. According to some performers, alcohol makes them feel sharper and helps them create. Others admitted that they began to abuse the "green snake" because of family or financial problems. For some, the "trigger" was the sudden collapse of fame or, conversely, the forced downtime in the profession. In any case, whatever the reasons, the ending can be tragic. Here is a list with photos of famous Soviet actors and actresses who died from alcoholism.
Oleg Dal (1941 - 1981)
- "Zhenya, Zhenechka and Katyusha", "Old, Old Tale", "The Adventures of Prince Florizel"
The owner of extraordinary talent, Oleg became famous at a fairly young age, having played several notable roles in the cinema. But the perfect start was in jeopardy. A hasty marriage with Nina Doroshina, which ended in divorce, marked the beginning of a pernicious passion, which was aggravated at an unprecedented rate. The directors were not eager to shoot an artist who had turned into a drunken alcoholic. Photos taken before and after the appearance of a dangerous habit perfectly demonstrate how much the performer's appearance has changed under the influence of strong drinks.
Dahl's very difficult character also complicated the matter: after another party, he regularly made scandals on the working site. For this reason, periods of active filming were often replaced by downtime, which affected the mental state of the actor. And he fought depression using an already proven method. Several times Oleg Ivanovich tried to get rid of the addiction and even encoded himself, but this did not bring the desired result. The favorite of Soviet viewers died in the spring of 1981 at the age of 39.
Vladimir Vysotsky (1938 - 1980)
- "The meeting place cannot be changed", "The tale of how Tsar Peter married the arap", "Vertical"
The list of domestic film actors who were killed by alcohol includes the famous performer of the role of Gleb Zheglov. Vysotsky never hid his love for strong drinks. And most of the feasts at which he attended often ended in scandals and fights.
Unpleasant incidents happened both on the stage of the theater and on the set, where the artist regularly appeared in good drunkenness. Long drinking bouts were not uncommon in the artist's life. Realizing all the danger of the addiction and wanting to get rid of it, Vladimir Semenovich several times sewed special capsules under the skin, but failed. On July 24, 1980, the heart of the famous actor stopped beating, unable to withstand the constant abuse of alcohol and drugs.
Yuri Bogatyrev (1947 - 1989)
- "One of our own among strangers, a stranger among our own", "Slave of Love", "Two Captains"
Yuri Bogatyrev is one of the artists who have fully felt the destructive effects of alcoholic beverages. All-Union glory fell upon him immediately after the release of the film "One of our own among strangers, a stranger among our own", where the actor played the main role. The transformation into the Chekist Yegor Shilov was so incredible that new proposals for filming were not long in coming. The directors unanimously repeated about Yuri's amazing acting talent and his ability to play the most diverse roles.
But the artist, who was successful and in demand in a creative way, was deeply unhappy and lonely in his personal life. Not contributed to his mental balance and inclination to be overweight, and latent homosexuality. Not delighted with his own dissimilarity to others, the man drowned unpleasant thoughts in alcoholic beverages.
The transition from the Sovremennik Theater to the Moscow Art Theater, whose troupe was famous for its love of alcohol, further worsened the situation: Bogatyrev began to drink a little black. Over time, dependence on the "green snake" became catastrophic, so lotions, colognes and all kinds of tinctures were used. The body of the actor, whose condition was undermined by constant libations and the use of antidepressants, malfunctioned. The genius performer passed away a month before his 42nd birthday.
Valentina Serova (1917 - 1975)
- "Hearts of four", "Wait for me", "Girl with character"
One of the most beautiful actresses in the USSR, the Stalin Prize laureate is also on our list of celebrities who have died from alcohol. At one time, the most enviable bachelors of the country looked after Valentina, but she gave her heart to the test pilot, hero of the Spanish Civil War, A. Serov. Unfortunately, their family union did not last long, as the man crashed while testing a new plane. The famous poet Konstantin Simonov became the next spouse of the film star, but this marriage can hardly be called happy. The author of “Wait for me, and I will be back ...” idolized his wife, although Serova herself did not experience strong reciprocal feelings and allowed herself to be loved.
Today it is difficult to say what exactly was the reason that prompted the actress to take up the bottle. But at the end of the 40s, she already very much abused alcohol. Alcohol addiction negatively affected both the personal life of the star and her career. The drunken artist was kicked out of one theater after another, and there were no more proposals for filming. Serova several times went to the hospital in an attempt to get rid of her addiction, but she always failed. The last years of the woman's life were spent in constant binges, and not a trace of the former beauty remained.
Andrey Krasko (1957 - 2006)
- "Checkpoint", "72 meters", "Death of the Empire"
Andrey Krasko continues our photo-list of famous Soviet actors and actresses who died from alcoholism. During his lifetime, he was often called the genius of the episode. And indeed it is. The artist has more than 80 small roles under his belt, which he performed in such a way that he even overshadowed the main characters. Unfortunately, neither talent, nor being in demand in the cinema, nor the love of the audience saved the performer from problems with alcohol.
As Krasko himself admitted, he began to drink right after school, failing the exams at the theater institute. Instead of studying, he had to work as a stage fitter. And among his fellow hard workers, almost everyone was put behind the collar, so he, too, quickly became addicted to the addiction. When the dream of becoming an actor finally came true, Andrei continued to drink.
According to Ivan Ivanovich, his father, the matter was unfulfilled. Already being a recognized movie star, the artist called himself a drunken alcoholic, tried to get rid of the destructive addiction, but in vain. The heart, weakened by years of abuse of spirits and nicotine, malfunctioned. Krasko died at the 49th year of life.
Frunzik Mkrtchyan (1930 - 1993)
- "Mimino", "Prisoner of the Caucasus, or Shurik's New Adventures", "Vanity of Vanities"
The popular artist was adored by the audience of the entire Soviet Union, and offers for a variety of holidays were received endlessly. Not wanting to offend people with his refusal, Frunzik accepted invitations. Innocuous feasts often turned into week-long spree, accompanied by dancing, songs and rivers of alcoholic beverages. Perhaps the love of a fun life would have remained entertainment, but family problems added fuel to the fire.
Mkrtchyan's wife had a serious mental illness, so the actor had to give up many roles in order to look after his wife. And after a while, a similar disease was diagnosed in the son of a film actor. Literally crushed by the grief that fell on him and the inability to work at full strength, Frunzik began to seek consolation at the bottom of the bottle and very quickly turned into a drunken alcoholic. The collapse of the USSR put a logical end to the career of the people's artist. The performer, who had lost interest in life, drank all alone, sitting in his Yerevan apartment. The tragic denouement took place on December 29, 1993: Mkrtchyan died after a week of drinking.
Viktor Kosykh (1950 - 2011)
- "Welcome, or No unauthorized entry", "They ring, open the door", "Elusive avengers"
Among the actors who died of alcoholism was the performer of the character of Danka from the famous adventure story about the elusive avengers. Victor got his first movie role at the age of 13 and immediately became popular. The directors were happy to invite a nice and talented guy to their films. By the time he entered VGIK, the creative baggage of the young artist consisted of more than 10 successful works. However, after graduating from the university, there were not very many proposals for filming, and the roles were mostly secondary.
With the collapse of the Soviet Union, difficult times came at all. According to rumors, it was then that Kosykh began to drink to cope with depression caused by lack of work and lack of money. The only source of livelihood for the performer was concerts, at which he talked about his creative past. The beginning of the 21st century brought Victor several cameo roles in films, and the rest of the time he worked in the Temp Theater of Mass Performances. At the end of December 2011, the once famous actor died of a cerebral hemorrhage caused by a huge amount of alcohol drunk.
Izolda Izvitskaya (1932 - 1971)
- "Forty-first", "Peace to the incoming", "We call fire on ourselves"
The actress, whose name thundered in the 50s of the last century, also became a victim of a destructive habit. She woke up famous after the release of the film Grigory Chukhrai "Forty-first". Isolde's talent was appreciated not only at home, but also abroad, and in Paris they even named a cafe in her honor. Shooting proposals fell on Izvitskaya one after another. True, these were mainly the roles of communist women in propaganda pictures. And the performer herself dreamed of a completely different job.
Gradually, her popularity began to decline, and, as a result, the artist began to drink in order to forget about the problems for a while. But strong drinks very quickly took control of the former star's mind and body. On the set, she more and more often came drunk, forgot the text, behaved inappropriately. Soon there was no work at all, and Isolde began to drink unrestrainedly.
The husband, unable to withstand the endless spree of his wife, went to another woman. When one day former colleagues came to visit her, they found a woman who was absolutely downcast. In an attempt to help cope with addiction, Izvitskaya was advised to turn to narcologists, but she flatly refused. The performer died at the 39th year of life from prolonged starvation against the background of chronic alcoholism.
Elena Mayorova (1958 - 1997)
- “Two and One”, “Lonely Hostels”, “Fast Train”
Our photo-list of famous Soviet actors and actresses who died of alcoholism is completed by Elena Mayorova. Her talent was undeniable, and a sad look and a gentle smile broke more than one male heart. The directors queued up to lure the star into their films. Unfortunately, in her personal life Elena was not very happy: she could not have children, and her husband did not become a real support for her. To cope with bad thoughts and relieve tension, Mayorova began to drink. She did not have long spree, but, according to the recollections of friends, she easily fell into a state of pathological intoxication and at this time did terrible things.
This is exactly what happened on August 23, 1997. Having quarreled with her husband, Elena, as usual, began to seek consolation at the bottom of the bottle. And then, already drunk, she doused herself with kerosene and set it on fire. The doctors who arrived could not save the honored artist of the RSFSR.
