There are times when the film is so bad that even a brilliant cast cannot save the day. It would seem that the game of the audience's favorites can make it interesting to watch the picture, but when everything else wants the best, write is lost. We decided to make a photo-list of bad films with great actors. They did what they could, but it ended in complete failure.
The Lone Ranger 2013
- Johnny Depp - Tonto, Armie Hammer - John Reed, Helena Bonham Carter - Red Harrington, Ruth Wilson - Rebecca Reed
This tragicomic western about the guardian of the law John Reed and his assistant Indian Tonto was extremely negatively received by the public. The film was even nominated for Golden Raspberry in five different categories. Critics, despite the stellar composition of the picture, called him "the main disappointment of the decade."
The Kitchen 2019
- Tiffany Haddish - Ruby, Melissa McCarthy - Katie, Elisabeth Moss - Claire
Critics smashed the action movie Hell's Kitchen to smithereens, claiming the talents of Haddish, McCarthy and Moss were wasted. The story of three housewives, whose husbands ended up in prison, seemed uninteresting to journalists and viewers. In the American media, a saying even appeared: "Everyone is trying, but unfortunately the main characters seem to think that they starred in three very different films."
Murder Mystery 2019
- Jennifer Aniston - Audrey, Adam Sandler - Nick, Luke Evans - Charles
Many critics agreed that the film is difficult to watch to the end. The abundance of attempts at jokes and excessive pretense make the comedy hard to watch. The film about a couple who went on a European trip and got into an unpleasant story at the same time turned out to be too commonplace. Aniston and Sandler did everything they could to get the audience interested, but the attempts were unsuccessful.
Mars attacks! (Mars Attacks!) 1996
- Jack Nicholson - President James Dale, Michael J. Fox - Jason Stone, Glenn Close - Marsha Dale, Pierce Bronsan - Professor Kessler, Sarah Jessica Parker - Natalie Lake
Tim Burton has a lot of cult films in his piggy bank, but Mars Attacks! not one of them. An attempt to produce a high-budget parody of science fiction films of the 50s failed. Of course, there were fans of the film who believe that "Mars is attacking!" Is an unrecognized masterpiece, but the rating and audience reviews speak for themselves.
Pearl Harbor 2001
- Ben Affleck - Rafe McCawley, Josh Hartnett - Daniel Walker, Jennifer Garner - Sandra, Jon Voight - Franklin Roosevelt
Despite the high ratings, Michael Bay's disaster war film is unlikely to be watched a second time by anyone. The patriotic American picture is a three-hour stream of bad dialogue and a banal love triangle. Perhaps blockbuster fans will disagree with this opinion, but Pearl Harbor is good only for its special effects and actors.
Odnoklassniki 2 (Grown Ups 2) 2013
- Adam Sandler - Lenny, Kevin James - Eric, Salma Hayek - Roxanne, Chris Rock - Kurt
If in the first part of the American comedy "Odnoklassniki" there was at least a hint of humor, the continuation raised many questions. Moreover, the first and most important of them was - why was it necessary to do the second part, given that the first did not have much success? Journalists and critics decided that the only correct answer was that good actors found a reason to meet and spend time together.
Gulliver's Travels 2010
- Jack Black - Gulliver, Emily Blunt - Princess Mary, Jason Siegel - Horatio, Catherine Tate - Queen of Lilliput Isabel
Rob Letterman's film was supposed to "modernize" Jonathan Swift's classic novel, but it was disappointing. Jack Black certainly tried to pull the film out with his talent, but he failed. Despite the brilliant cast, the comedy flopped at the box office and received many negative reviews. And most of them were well deserved.
Be Cool 2005
- John Travolta - Chile Palmer, Uma Thurman - Idi Athens, Vince Vaughn - Roger, Dwayne Johnson - Elliot Wilhelm
Comedy "Be Cool" was filmed especially for fans of the movie "Get Shorty". Unfortunately, the sequel failed - instead of a high intellectual level and high-quality humor, the viewer received a mediocre movie. The picture turned out to be unfunny, and the plot was far-fetched. The only highlight of the film is the dance of John Travolta with Uma Thurman.
Fantastic Four (2005)
- Jessica Alba - Sue, Chris Evans - Johnny, Kerry Washington - Alicia, Ioan Griffith - Reid
Not all films in the Marvell universe are equally good, and Fantastic Four is a perfect example of this. The project failed to become a hit, despite its large budget and stellar cast. Film critics praised the actors for trying to save the project with their acting, but overall, the film about this four is a complete failure.
Batman & Robin 1997
- George Clooney - Batman, Arnold Schwarzenegger - Dr. Freese, Chris O'Donnell - Robin, Uma Thurman - Poison Ivy, Alicia Silverstone - Barbara Wilson
Continuing our photo-list of bad films with excellent actors of the superhero movies "Batman and Robin". This film could completely ruin Clooney's career and the Batman franchise in general. The situation was saved only by Uma Thurman, who was at least a little interesting to the viewer during this sad action. George even apologized to his fans and comic book lovers for the project. Schwarzenegger and Silverstone remained silent, but they hardly like to remember that they took part in this film.
Jupiter Ascending 2015
- Mila Kunis - Jupiter Jones, Channing Tatum - Kane, Eddie Redmayne - Balem Abrasax, Sean Bean - Stinger
The audience expected much more from the space story about the girl Jupiter than they received in the end. Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum completely played their characters, and the critics had no complaints about them personally. Many questions from viewers and journalists were caused by the very computer graphics, which was called complete bad taste. As for the script, even ardent fans of science fiction did not appreciate it.
The Hustle 2019
- Anne Hathaway - Josephine, Rebel Wilson - Penny
In detail
The story of two swindlers who made a bet about which of them would be the best to pull off a new business failed at the box office. The efforts of Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson were unsuccessful. The stars failed to illuminate this lackluster film with their talent. Film critics trashed the comedy, claiming that the only people tricked in the film were the audience.
Men in Black International 2019
- Chris Hemsworth as Agent H, Tessa Thompson as Agent Em, Liam Neeson as Chapter T, Rebecca Ferguson as Reese
In detail
The next sequel to "Men in Black" did not evoke violent emotions in the audience. Just for Hemsworth and Thompson's sake, many fans of the franchise have visited cinemas. Critics completely destroyed the project, calling it a "lifeless action movie" and "theft of spectator money."
The Faculty 1998
- Jordana Brewster as Dalila, Josh Hartnett as Zeke, Elijah Wood as Casey, Famke Janssen as Elizabeth Burke
Not that "Faculty" was completely bad, but it deceived the audience's expectations. When screenwriter Kevin Williamson and director Robert Rodriguez took over, moviegoers froze in anticipation. The star cast also confirmed them in the opinion that a real masterpiece will be released on the screens. As a result, the creators got a standard picture of teenagers and aliens.
Boundaries 2018
- Vera Farmiga - Laura, Christopher Plummer - Jack, Lewis McDougall - Henry, Christopher Lloyd - Stanley
A film about completely different, but still close people who are forced to go on the road together, could not become a masterpiece. Although it is worth paying tribute to the creators of the project - there were prerequisites. And it's not only the stars who play the main roles, but also some of the director's moves. But a too simple script and strange unfunny jokes did their job - the audience did not accept this film.
Then live yourself (This Is Where I Leave You) 2014
- Tina Fey - Wendy, Jason Bateman - Judd, Adam Driver - Philip, Corey Stoll - Paul, Jane Fonda - Hilary
The film about a not very close-knit family, which needs to stay under one roof for a whole week, did not impress critics. The audience also did not appreciate the dramedy of Sean Levy. The only thing that the director managed perfectly well was to collect world-famous stars in his picture.
What to Expect When You’re Expecting 2012
- Jennifer Lopez as Holly, Cameron Diaz as Juice, Elizabeth Banks as Wendy, Matthew Morrison as Evan
Neither Cameron Diaz nor J.Lo were able to revive the picture's obviously dead script. The story of five pregnant women was interesting only to those who were expecting a baby at the time of the film's release on the big screens. The wonderful cast couldn't get the film up to par.
Show of the Century (Masked and Anonymous) 2003
- Bob Dylan - Jack Faith, John Goodman - Uncle Sweetheart, Penelope Cruz - Pagan Leys, Jeff Bridges - Tom Friend
After the film "Show of the Century" was released, journalists called it "a contender for the worst film of the century." The picture was compared to a plotless train wreck. The only thing that saved Larry Charles's film even a little was not even the brilliant cast, but an excellent soundtrack.
The Big Wedding 2013
- Robert De Niro - Don, Katherine Heigl - Leela, Diane Keaton - Ellie, Amanda Seyfried - Missy
Many critics have called the project "one of the most disastrous wedding comedies." This film is very difficult to watch - the number of stars is off the charts, and emotions can hardly be called positive. It's amazing to see a selection of great actors in such a bad film, and it's completely incomprehensible why they decided to take part in this project.
"Old" New Year (New Year's Eve) 2011
- Michelle Pfeiffer - Ingrid, Sarah Jessica Parker - Kim Doyle, Zac Efron - Paul, Robert De Niro - Harry, Til Schweiger - James
The photo-list of bad films with excellent actors is completed by the project "Old" New Year ". This film was supposed to be a romantic comedy with a superstar cast, but something went wrong. Despite the fact that the number of stars per frame went off scale, the dialogues looked fake, the jokes were unfunny, and the plot was too predictable.
