Farsi Lessons is a new war drama co-produced by Russia, Germany and Belarus, directed by Vadim Perelman. The world premiere will take place at the Berlinale 2020. Plot
In 1942, a young Belgian Jew, Gilles Cremieux, pretends to be a Persian to avoid being shot. This lie saves his life, but Gilles cannot even imagine what fate will now affect him.
SS soldiers take him to Klaus Koch, the chef in the concentration camp kitchen. Koh plans to move to Iran after the war and is looking for someone to teach him the language. To survive, Gilles pretends to know Farsi.
But now he is ordered to teach this to Koch, in whose language he does not know a word. This is how the story of Gilles Cremier and Klaus Koch begins - a Jew and a German, a prisoner and a guard, a teacher and a student. Gilles' plan seems impossible from the start. Every day he must compose four non-existent words, remembering the old ones. 4 words a day, 120 words a month and almost 1500 a year! How to invent and remember them all?
