Ondine is a German-French drama inspired by Ingeborg Bachmann's story Ondine Leaves, fairy tales about mermaids, the history of Berlin literally built on water, on a river and swamps, and the popular TV series Babylon Berlin. According to the plot, the main character works as a museum guide in modern Berlin and tries to forget herself in a new passionate novel. But an irresistible feeling pushes a woman to murder her unfaithful lover and even suicide. Plot
Undine is a girl historian and urbanist who works at the Berlin City Museum. She breaks up with her boyfriend Johann on his initiative and is very upset by the breakup. Upset, Undine decides to go to a cafe next to the museum at lunchtime, hoping to meet Johann there, but meets Christoph there, who fell in love with her while listening to her author's museum lecture on the history of the city's development. The element of water came to the aid of Christoph, and an aquarium standing in the cafe suddenly falls on them. Lying on the wet floor among aquarium fish, algae and glass shards, Ondine immediately reciprocates Christoph's.
Christophe works as a diver, and one day he pinches his leg during underwater work. After 13 agonizing minutes without oxygen, the guy turns into a brain-dead algae. Then Undine sacrifices his former water to the spirits and disappears forever. This is where the clear narration in the film ends, after which the plot turns, extremely unexpected and not always understandable, begin.
