Sarah Barnett, President of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios, shared in an interview with Deadline:

“I love the concept of history and horror. Horror is such a brilliant metaphorical way of telling. The second and first seasons described such intense and distinctive historical periods, with internment camps or the northwest passage. It was really interesting! I'm curious how we can continue this franchise and see what works out in the third season. "

Barnett also said that AMC will be working with a new creative team in season three. This makes sense considering the first season was designed by David Kaiganich and the second season by Alexander Wu and Max Borenstein.
