Plot (contains spoilers)
Malcolm Bright is an outstanding crime psychologist who knows how real killers think and how their minds work. In the 90s, his father, Dr. Martin Wheatley, was an infamous serial killer named "The Surgeon", who killed at least 23 people. Since murder is a "family business," Malcolm consults with his father to help NYPD solve the crimes and stop the killers.
He works with his longtime mentor Gill Arroyo and two detectives, Dany Powell and J. T. Tarmel. Bright is arresting New York City killers like his father. But what if the lust for blood won out in Malcolm's head? After all, a forensic psychologist might be tempted to follow in his father's footsteps and become the killer he has always feared and who has always been inside him.
An episode titled "Like a Father ..." (April 27, 2020) changed the dynamics of the entire series and the view of the Wheatley family. Instead of Malcolm following in his father's footsteps, as many viewers had expected, it was Ainsley Wheatley who became the killer in the end.
In the second season, Malcolm can focus on making his future better and brighter by working hard for the NYPD and not letting his trauma affect his psyche.
