Writer and screenwriter Josh Malerman has shared the details of the sequel to Netflix's sci-fi horror "Bird Box". He said that the movie "Birdbox 2" is in development, so a trailer and information on the exact release date can be expected no earlier than 2021.
Plot
The sequel to the Josh Malerman novel, Malorie, hits bookstore shelves on July 21, 2020. The book is named after the main character, played by Sandra Bullock in the first part. Eric Heisserer's screenplay was based on Malerman's 2014 novel of the same name and followed a similar plot trajectory. Therefore, Birdbox 2 is expected to tell the same story as Malorie.
What is the 1st part about
Post-apocalyptic world. Malorie Hayes tries to protect herself and her two children, Tom and Olympia, from demonic beings. These monsters take the form of the hidden fears of their victims and are capable of driving them to suicide. The best remedy against them is to blindfold yourself so as not to see the terrible appearance of the creatures. At the end of the movie, Malorie, Tom and Olympia make it to a school for the blind, hidden deep in the forest, where they seem to be safe.
What is the 2nd part about
The short review of the book "Malorie" contains some intriguing revelations about the future of the protagonist, as well as hints at what the story might look like. To begin with, the sequel to the novel is set 12 years after the events of the original, when Malorie's children become teenagers. Someone who is very dear to Malorie, someone she thought was dead may be alive. The biggest revelation in the sequel is the monsters themselves.
