Plot
Washington Heights, the Latin American quarter of New York, lights up ... Dreamers live here, the smell of hot coffee is in the air at the 181st Street subway station. In this whirlwind falls also Ousnavi de la Vega, a charming and attractive small store owner who saves every penny earned by hard work. He dreams of a better life and dreams of winning the lottery to escape to the shores of his native Dominican Republic.

- In 2017, actor Lin-Manuel Miranda announced that he would not play Ousnavi de la Vega for the film version, but could play a different role in the film, be it a minor character or cameo.
- In November 2008, Universal Pictures announced they were planning to adapt the musical as a feature film, due out in 2011.
