The project-musical "Prom" is an adaptation of the book "The Prom" by Jack Virtel, Bob Martin and Chad Begelin.
Plot
The action takes place in the American state of Indiana, in the city of Edgewater, whose inhabitants are adherents of conservative views. A troupe of gay and obsessed theatrical stars from Broadway breaks into this quiet and correct life, filled with traditions and foundations, in support of a gay high school student who wants to take her friend to prom. Thus, trying to attract attention from the media.

Several cognitive facts:
- Nicole Kidman stars as Angie Dickinson, the chorus girl for Chicago, who quit her job after 20 years after being banned from ever playing the role of Roxy Hart by producers. In real life, Kidman herself turned down the role of Roxy Hart in Chicago (2002).
- This is the fifth musical for Kidman and the fourth in which she has contributed to the soundtrack.
- Kidman's first meeting with director Murphy on the same set. There were plans to collaborate on an adaptation of Lawrence David's Need, but the project was put on hold.
