Interesting Facts
Did you know that:
- This is the second movie Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet are working on together in 2020, after Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch.
- Filming will start in March 2019.
- Mary Anning is a real woman, renowned British fossil collector and amateur paleontologist. She made her first discovery at the age of 12 when she and her brother discovered the remains of an ichthyosaur. This was in 1811, 48 years before Charles Darwin's Origin of Species was published. She went on to uncover other dinosaur species that caused a sensation. But male scientists have often written about these findings in scientific papers with disbelief. The Geological Community of London refused to accept it. They did not recognize women until 1904, and she died in relative obscurity.
- Anning's relatives have accused director Francis Lee of creating a lesbian storyline. Mary's descendants have stated that her sexual orientation has not been confirmed. “Imagine the shame and embarrassment that this woman would feel now when her personal life was discussed and played out on the screen. It doesn't add anything to her story, ”said Barbara Anning.
