The coronavirus is sweeping the planet, and this, of course, worries all of us very much. But humanity has more than once experienced epidemics of diseases, pandemics and attacks of various viruses. The list of the best films and TV series about epidemics and viruses will remind us of this. Wash your hands thoroughly and watch a good movie!
Carriers
- 2008 year
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6; IMDb - 6
- USA
- horror, fantasy, drama
Humanity is experiencing an outbreak of a terrible epidemic that turns its victims into a zombie counterpart. Four friends, two of whom are brothers, are caught by an epidemic on the way. The only salvation for them is constant movement. Even where to go gradually ceases to matter ...
The film has a road-movie format that is quite traditional for a zombie-acopalypse. People go somewhere because they have nothing else to do. You can make anything out of this plot, and the filmmakers choose the best option. Before us is an arthouse drama that man is a wolf to man. And only then - zombies.
The Ruins
- 2008 year
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6.2; IMDb - 5.8
- USA, Germany, Australia
- horrors
Five young Americans travel to the Mexican jungle to admire the Mayan pyramid. The beauty of nature and majestic ruins, as usual, harbor ancient evil. The tourist trip turns into a nightmare.
Another film with a stereotypical plot: stupid youth climb where they don't need to. Everyone is so tired of these young people that they have not been sorry for them for a long time. But debutant director Carter Smith is a former fashion photographer, so the movie turned out to be stylish, with excellent camera work, spectacular locations and, most importantly for horror, with unrelenting suspense.
Last Love on Earth (Perfect Sense)
- 2010 year
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 7.6; IMDb - 7.1
- UK, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland
- fantasy, melodrama
Susan and Michael fall in love under unthinkable circumstances: all over the world, people literally faint. Touch, smell, hearing and sight - all will gradually be lost. The world is drawing to a close and love seems less and less possible.
Of course, the filmmakers are trying to say that love is the only salvation. This "news" is poked at the viewer rather obsessively. On the other hand, this “news” never gets old, and the creators have chosen an interesting and unusual format to bring it to us. Ewan McGregor and Eva Green in the roles of lovers help them in this successfully.
Epidemic
- 2018
- 1 season
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 7.1; IMDb - 7.2
- Russia
- drama, fantasy, thriller
A family near Moscow, in which one man cannot deal with two women, escapes from the epidemic that has covered the territory of Russia. There are very few uninfected areas left, and they are heading to Karelia, where they find shelter on a desert island.
The adaptation of Yana Wagner's bestseller "Vongozero" caused a lot of controversy not only because of the highly rated scenes. The series was even taken off the air because of the scene of the execution of civilians by the security forces. According to Meduza, Minister of Culture Medinsky helped bring the series back to the screens. It is worth seeing to at least find out what the fuss is about.
Blindness
- 2008 year
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6.6; IMDb - 6.6
- Canada, Brazil, Japan
- fiction, thriller, drama, detective
The inhabitants of an unnamed city of an unnamed country are plagued by a strange epidemic of blindness. The ophthalmologist loses sight and his wife fakes blindness to stay with him. Only she did not suffer from the threat to all humanity. Why is she destined to become the guide of the blind?
The adaptation of the novel of the same name by Nobel laureate Jose Saramaga shows that the consequences of a quiet catastrophe can be no less dire than from a loud apocalypse. This is not a commercial project, but a philosophical fiction, perhaps not as strong as a novel. Julianne Moore is blonde here; this in itself is already a sight.
Infection (Contagion)
- 2011
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6.4; IMDb - 6.7
- UAE, USA
- fiction, action, thriller, drama
One blonde (Gwyneth Paltrow) caught a slight cold while on a trip abroad. Cheated on her husband (Matt Damon) and returned home to the USA. Thus began the spread of the infection, which the International Organization of Physicians is trying to stop.
Steven Soderbergh's film, shot nearly 10 years ago, turns out to be surprisingly on the head of the day. Out of all the fiction - exaggerated mortality statistics (knock on wood) and doctors played by a crowd of Hollywood stars. A phrase from the film should be made a motto:
“Better to overreact than to have people die because of our inaction.”
Helix
- 2014
- 2 seasons
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6.6; IMDb - 6.8
- Canada
- horror, fantasy, thriller, detective
At a research laboratory in Antarctica, a team of scientists is trying to understand the nature of a new virus that turns a person into a mad monster. Soon, the infected mutants begin to attack humans.
The threat to humanity, which is found in the polar ice, was once shown by John Carpenter in his cult horror film The Thing. Canadian telefiction is an interesting option on the same topic, which is worth watching: choose your favorite and “root” for him so that he can survive in the midst of white horror.
Light of My Life
- 2019 year
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6.3; IMDb - 6.6
- USA
- fantasy, drama
Ten years ago, an epidemic destroyed all women on the planet, including the mother of the newborn Reg. In a post-apocalyptic world, a miraculously surviving girl travels through the forests and wastelands with her father.
Actor Casey Affleck presented his directorial debut after being accused of harassment. The case where the #MeToo movement has benefited art: this is a leisurely and intelligent film, reminiscent of "The Road" with Viggo Mortensen, about growing up and too strong parental love. Interesting consequences of the end of the world.
The Invasion
- 2007 year
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6.5; IMDb - 5.9
- USA, Australia
- fantasy, thriller
The alien invasion is not organized by little green men, creepy monsters or giant tripods, but a virus. A fragile psychoanalyst (Nicole Kidman), constantly repeating: "The main thing is not to sleep," and a courageous doctor (Daniel Craig) are fighting the threat to humanity.
This is far from the best remake of the classic horror film Invasion of the Body Snatchers based on the novel by Jack Finney, but it has its advantages. The film is worth watching if you want something about infection, but not too scary and convincing. Bonus - charming golden-haired Kidman, who does not lose her gloss during the apocalypse.
Virus (Gamgi)
- year 2013
- Rating: KinoPoisk - 6.7; IMDb - 6.7
- South Korea
- fantasy, thriller, action
In Seoul, a monstrous virus is raging, brought in by two smuggling brothers from illegal immigrants who were transporting a suspicious container on a ship, whose contents are rapidly mutating. Death catches people on the streets and drivers behind the wheel. The city is plunged into chaos, and the government is forced to take the most dire measures.
South Korean cinema is possibly the harshest in the world. The guys are constantly filming something vivisector, you can imagine what will happen if a large-scale disaster film about a pandemic becomes a genre. It takes strong nerves to watch this film.
