In 2021 or 2022, an English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1952 drama Live will be released. It may not contain brutal samurai battles and vivid special effects created from thunder and lightning, but, nevertheless, this is one of Kurosawa's best works. The new version will be directed by Oliver Hermanus, and the script will be written by Kazuo Ishiguro, a Nobel Prize winner.
Plot
1952, London. The plot follows an aging official, William (Bill Nighy), who, on the eve of his retirement, finds out that he has cancer and does not have long to live. The viewer will watch a person wandering with the flow of life in search of something true and meaningful, to which one could hold on to the last days, measured for him on earth. He begins his quest for meaning in his monotonous life before it slips away. William finds solace with an energetic young colleague, played by Amy Lou Wood from Netflix's Sex Education.
